What We Do

 

 

The American Association of University Women, founded in 1881, is the largest and oldest national organization working for the advancement of women and education. AAUW is a network of over 150,000 educated women, sharing resources with more than 1,300 branches in every state, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Membership is open to anyone holding a baccalaureate, associate or equivalent degree. A leader in coalitions, the Association plays a major role in building support nationwide for its priority issues.  National Website:  www.aauw.org

  • AAUW’s mission is promoting equity and education for all women and girls. The work of AAUW builds upon a century of responsible public participation. AAUW is committed to working in partnership with diverse allies.

 

  • AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research.

 

  •  AAUW will be a powerful advocate and visible leader in equity and education through research, philanthropy and measurable change in critical areas impacting the lives of women and girls.

 

  • In principle and practice, AAUW values and seeks a diverse membership.

 

  • There shall be no barriers to full participation in the organization on the basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin, disability or class.

 

  • The AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund provides funding and a support system for women seeking judicial redress for sex discrimination in higher education.

 

  •  AAUW's Educational Foundation provides funds to advance education, research and self-development for women and to foster equity and positive societal change.
